I’ve been reading through posts on here and I don’t understand why people have to voice that Loki is not the Norse Satan, he in no way reminds me of Satan, I’m just… Confused.

as I understand it, when christianity swept northward they did their standard “you can keep all your holidays but you gotta do them in our god’s name now, and btw all your trickster figures are Actually The Devil” which then had a couple centuries to dig in real deep, so the modern lay understanding of loki as a mythological figure is more malicious and devil-analogous than he was ever portrayed in the original untranslated myths

Ahh ok that makes sense. I so strongly dislike big religions trampling over the smaller ones and warping their lore and holidays – Loki is definitely not the equivalent to the Christian devil. I actually know nothing of the Norse holidays either, as of now I celebrate the wheel of the year in a bioregional sense, I’d love to have more insight into Heathen holidays. You are very knowledgeable omg

I feel you there! I’m not super familiar with norse holidays either, though I did once read a very nice breakdown on how santa is really odin even in modern christmas – during midwinter he’d ride around and leave presents in children’s wooden shoes, and to encourage visits the kids would leave carrots for his horse in the same place. systlin is more familiar with norse holidays and worship than I am imo, she’s def worth asking about it!
